The Men In Blue

Men In BlueBrevard Medical Equipment, along with other medical equipment companies, participates in the Brevard County Emergency Management Special Needs Sheltering Program. When there is an evacuation for emergency or disasters, we provide staff for the shelters to those with oxygen needs.

During hurricanes Charlie, Frances, and Jeanne, Brevard Medical Equipment provided four of our oxygen technicians for two of the shelters. During the storms, people looking for help with their oxygen needs would ask one of the County employees or one of the Sheriff’s deputies who they should see. They were told to find one of the men wearing the blue Brevard Medical Equipment shirts. That is how our oxygen technicians became known as the “Men in Blue”.

These “Men in Blue” spent any where from 3 to 10 days during Frances and 3 to 8 days during Jeanne caring for the special needs shelterees. They pitched in and helped the nurses and other staff when needed. They stayed at the shelters without leaving, working 24 hours a day with very little sleep. I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to their jobs: Leon Paige, Chris Watson, Roger Paige and Gus Scholle – The Men In Blue!
